The Dispatch N. 208 was received 9th February and despatched for note and return by Auditor and Surveyor General; by the former it was noted and returned on the 12th February.

I can find no trace of its being noted by Surveyor General, and so imagine it to have been overlooked by Mr Alexander at the time, for the Office was then busy with the outgoing mail of 18th February, and immediately after the despatch of that Mail, the Colonial Office Despatches for 186... were put in the binder's hands.

This may account for the omission, which however was not of long duration, for it was discovered shortly after, and
