board his ship, at a time when
there was none in the town as
appears from the Colonial Surgeon's report : his object apparently
was
to land the man
subsequently without
stating his disease and so gain him
admission to the Civil Hospital.
10. This is a
very grave charge
against a Naval Officer, especially
one
who talks so loftily as Captain Calvo; but nevertheless
there is little doubt
that such was the case. In his letter
of the 29th March to the Consul;
written of course with a view to its
transmission to myself, and also subsequent to the discovery of Small Pox
on board of the "Circe" as above.
