Since the close of the Expedition he has been in attendance upon Colonel Chesney, assisting in the preparation of his narrative.
I have seen Sergeant Quin under such various trials that I know him to be an excellent man, honorable and very active and with acquirements beyond his station.

Sergeant William Quin Royal Artillery
This valuable Non-Commissioned Officer having requested a Certificate from me as to his character I have only to observe that during the period he served under my Command at the end of the Royal Artillery (late Indies) I never met with any one, whose services were more truly valuable than this Non-Commissioned Officer, and I consider him in every respect from Character and superior abilities qualified to hold any situation of importance, and trust; and truly glad should I feel to see him advanced to a higher station in life, which he is so deserving of.
Woolwich,
25 Nov. 1839.
