An Act passed by the British Parliament on the 6th and 7th of Victoria, entitled "An Act for the better government of Her Majesty's subjects residing within the dominions of the Emperor of China, or being within certain distances of the coast of China."
2.
An Order in Council was passed on May 1st, 1849, directing that all persons in Hongkong should be subject to the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Victoria, in the same manner as if they were within the Island of Hongkong.
3.
The Letters Patent of the Queen (Hongkong) dated May 11th, 1849, were formally granted and published in the local Government Gazette at Hongkong.
The Preamble of the Letters Patent quotes the Act of Parliament and the Order in Council mentioned above.
4. The Colony of Hongkong was established on January 26th, 1841, and was therefore unaffected by the Order in Council.
