24th October 1866
Referring to your favor of the 17th inst., in reference to our application of the 10th inst., asking for a copy of the regulations affecting the receipt of presents by public functionaries, we beg to state that in accordance with your kind suggestion, we have applied to Messrs Harrisons and find that the Colonial Office list is now out of print and that the fresh volume will not be ready until the close of the present year.
We have also made enquiry elsewhere but are unable to find a copy. Under these circumstances, we trust we shall be allowed to attend at your Office for the purpose of making a copy or that you will permit a copy thereof to be supplied in accordance with our original request.
We have no occasion to observe that we have the circular whereby the Rule in question (the 3rd) was made applicable to Hong Kong.
Trusting the favor of an early reply.
