As the Widow and personal representative of Mr. Adams late Chief Justice of Hongkong, I respectfully beg to recall to your Lordship's notice the circumstances in which Mr. Adams's death has placed his three younger children.

Mr. Adams was appointed Attorney General of Hongkong in May 1859. Immediately on his arrival in that Colony, he was requested by the Governor to accept the Office of Acting Chief Justice, and subsequently became Chief Justice in 1860.

By accepting the office of Chief Justice, Mr. Adams renounced the opportunity of realizing by private Practice the large income ordinarily obtained by the Attorney General of Hongkong.
