Imposition of Stamp Duties
I am directed to inform you that a despatch has been addressed to the Governor of that Colony conveying the approval of the principles of the Ordinance passed at the suggestion of the Lords of the Treasury.
A copy of your despatch has been sent to Lord Stanley with a request that he will furnish a report on the circumstances represented by the Oriental Bank Corporation, together with a report upon the general state and amount of the note circulation of the banks established in Hongkong.
I also have authority to bring it into operation.
