In future,

was ordered to be adopted by the regulations issued by this Board after long correspondence and careful investigation in communication with yourself, which were communicated to the Governor of Hong Kong in Lord Ripon's despatch of 26th June last.

Under the circumstances, however (represented by you in your letter to the Colonial Office of 3rd instant), and as it appears that the Dollars found have been coined off the fineness prescribed by the Regulations, and consequently, that the proportionate value of the Coin will not be lessened, Their Lordships would not feel justified in objecting to the adoption of the Dollar of the slightly lower value as issued and will be prepared to make the necessary communication to that effect to the Secretary of State.

It will however become necessary that the altered weight for the Dollar should receive the formal sanction of this Board and the regulations referred to above will therefore have to be withdrawn and fresh regulations issued.

Their Lordships accordingly desire me to convey to you their instructions to prepare fresh regulations, without delay, sanctioning the lower weight for the Hong Kong Dollar.

I am to state that My Lords have approved of the additional appointments at the Hong Kong Mint recommended by the Governor, viz - Second Assayer and additional Foreman, in consequence of your letter of 4th August last, which was communicated to this Board.

(Fine Copy)

I am, &c.

(Signed) Spencer Shelley
