Referring to the letter of the Childers dated 25th Instant with Enclosures, I beg to express my concurrence in the opinion contained in the Despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong of 8th January last as to the necessity of certain Regulations alluded to in the 8th Clause of the Ordinance of 1864 being formalized, although I am of opinion that the intent might be immediately effected. The proclamation being often delayed some time after the coins are in circulation. A current weight is also fixed for the Dollar and Half Dollar, being the limit at which these Coins cease to circulate when reduced by wear.

The smaller silver pieces, subsidiary to the Dollar, being only tokens, do not require...
