Lieutenant Governor of Hong Kong has enquired about the establishment of Post Office Agencies in the treaty ports for facilitating the mail service.

Lord Carnarvon has requested Lord Grantham to furnish similar information as that for Singapore.

MINUTE 27 Dec. 1866

The Under Secretary of State for the Colonies directed that a copy of a letter from the General Post Office be transmitted to the Governor of Hong Kong.

The letter stated that Mr. E. H. Read had been appointed to inspect the Post Office Agencies maintained by that department in China and Japan.
