I have the honor by order of
the Board of Directors to transmit,
for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies and the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty the copy of a letter received from the Superintendent of this Company at Hongkong by the last mail on the subject of the alarming bad increase of piracy in the China Seas.
I am desired to state that
the Directors will give immediate effect to the recommendations of their Superintendent as regards the armament of the Company's steamers in order to secure the
safety as far as may be possible - of the passengers, mails, and valuable cargo constantly carried by them, but they have at the same time felt it to be their duty to submit
