Screw schooner "Since" :

Yesterday evening anchored in this port bringing the general correspondence for Europe; on the visitation from the Harbour Master I stated that there was nothing new in the vessel, but re-(collecting afterwards that there was a native on board who had the small pox, I commissioned Mode Sousa a native of this place to obtain from the proper person the necessary authority to transfer him to the civil hospital; because although the disease had not then arrived at suppuration, and therefore was not contagious, it might perhaps do so on the following day, and it would then be dangerous to keep the patient in the vessel.
