Though Hong Kong is part of China nowadays, escaping from Hong Kong to Mainland China and then being returned could be somewhat embarrassing. Considering the perilous journey, the facility of escape would promote unpunished racing for suffering dangerous impunity. It is probably not convenient without surrendering them to the authorities there for trial. But if they are tried by the Chinese Communist authorities, they might be punished by the brutal methods, which would lead to concerns. It is suggested whether the Chinese Government would not consent to waive the application of barbarous punishments in the case of persons who are tried for crimes committed in British Territory on the application of the British authorities.
