Mr. Sydd, the person now recommended requires £400 rising to £500, a year, annual increments of £50. After that to be subject to such arrangement as shall be agreed upon.

On either side (I presume after the completion of the two years service) to terminate the Agreement on Three months notice.

To be provided with a free residence while in Hong Kong, and first-class passage to & from the Colony.

Mr. Rawlinson further recommends that Mr. Sydd should be sent to Swansea before going out at a further additional cost of about £10.

These are the terms Mr. Rawlinson recommends should be accepted, and the Crown Agents will be glad to receive Carnarvon's further instructions in the matter.
