404 already on the Staff of the office, viz. Mr Gerrard (the Job Clerk) and Mr Sangster (2nd Clerk) draw their pay under the provisions of the Civil List, and also Yuenny, also the shroff.
Mr Gerrard has been in the office since the 10th April, 1860, and has been recommended both by my late Predecessor and myself for increase of pay. As a first clerk in a Government Department his Salary is less than that of any of his equals, in that hitherto no standard has been set.
£300 per annum is the emolument of his post. At this time however, as his work is likely to be considerably increased, and the Salaries of the different posts are being re-arranged I would urge this particular case as one deserving of His Excellency's consideration, for I hold Mr Gerrard to be a valuable and underpaid Officer.
Mr. Sangster's case, which has been so lately under the notice of the Governor, requires little comment from me beyond the fact that I would respectfully express my opinion that an increase of £50 ($240) per annum, bringing his Salary up to the rate which he has recently been receiving for other duties, would induce him to continue, what I...
