In the Year 1855 I made two
applications for an
increase
of Salary, though I urged what
I considered were strong
claims, which were also
recommended by the Surveyor
General as in Appendix G.

Report for the Year 1855 the Surveyor General, unsolicited
by me, urged my claim on
the consideration of the
Government as in Appendix H. In the year 1857 painful
domestic circumstances required
my return to England on urgent private affairs," so that I went
on leave of absence a second time for a
period of 18 months on half salary of £150
per annum, this absorbed all.
