The value of my

services was more

appreciated and perhaps

more keenly felt, during my

absence than would have been

the

case had I steadily remained at my post; this

may

be inferred from the Report of the Purveyor General

Report for the Year 1855 the Surveyor General, unsolicited

by me, urged my claim on

the consideration of the

Government as in Appendix H. In the year 1857 painful

domestic circumstances required

my return to England on urgent private affairs," so that I went

on leave of absence a second time for a

period of 18 months on half salary of £150

per annum, this absorbed all.
