In the month of June of that year I applied to have my salary restored to its former amount, proposing to perform all the duties of the Office without the assistance of Clerk, the second Clerk lately in the Office having resigned his appointment: the Surveyor General recommended my application to the Governor as in Appendix A.

His Excellency The Governor was so convinced of the hardship of my case, that he not only restored my salary to its former amount for 1850, but made up to me the amount deducted from my salary in 1849 in the shape of Allowance for extra work performed after the resignation of the second Clerk; the Surveyor General recommended my application as in Appendix D.
