The intended frapage of one of these squadrons, numbering 10 armed Junks, through the waters of Hongkong, was notified to you in Mr Robertson's despatch No. of the 10th August.

Canton, October 13th 1866.

The Acting Vice Roy received on the 11th instant the Honorable Vice Consul's despatch stating that inquiry had been urged by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong with respect to the practicability of introducing at the Chinese ports regulations similar to those instituted in Hongkong for securing and registering of Vessels; which, together with the annexed translation (of Sir R. G. MacDonnell's despatch) the Vice Roy has perused.
