Mer Rennie - Auditor General, who had been acting for Mr Mercer left Hongkong on the 22nd ultimo at the request of Sir Rutherford Alcock on a tour of duty for two months to the various Consular Ports in China and Japan. I have not appointed any Acting Auditor General during Mr. Rennie's absence - as I am satisfied with the temporary arrangements which he has made for conducting duties, and which entail no expense to the Colony.
I have the honor to be, Your Lordship's most obedient Servant, Robinson Robinson MacDonnell Governor.
