OFFICE OF SURVEYOR GENERAL
ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENSE NECESSARY TO BE INCURRED FOR SANITARIUM AT ROWTOWN
PLAN OR DESCRIPTION.
log1 20 30 192 300 1681 bo 348 267 48. 217 42 374This Building has been already commenced, the sum of $3,000 having been voted towards its foundations erection under Report and Estimate 17 of 1866.
At the time of this sum being voted it was proposed to build a Dressed Congdon & Bungalow involving less expense; but on the stress and representation of the Colonial Surgeon, Principal Medical Officer, as to the wish that must be entailed by convalescents having to sleep on the large Ground Floor, His Excellency the Governor decided to include a sum in the estimates for 1867 which would allow of an upper floor being added.
It is also considered desirable to encourage the erection of a house of the size proposed, in a prominent position like this, as it is likely to induce other Buildings to be brought up to a similar standard.
The 8'hi rooms on the Ground floor will of course be fitted with frames and Venetian shutters of the same size as those intended for the Bungalows, with the only change being an arrangement for the Drawing Room and Dining Room to be thrown into one by means of sliding doors.
The Bath Room and Water Closet on the south East side and adjoining the Dining Room will be made use of as a pantry.
Approved,
(signed) Richard Graves MacDonnell Governor.
