Upon this the Admiralty was informed that for the present at least the plan was abandoned, and a communication to the same effect was made to the Gov.

In 1836 Lord M. reports (not having received 2018) that he has imposed additional taxation viz the Stamp tax which is expected to yield £80,000 and that he had made provision in the Estimates for the annual maintenance of the Gunboat £26,000 about £5420.

Of the Estimates £20,000 is also voted for Military Contribution, being the full amount.

The difficulty raised by the Admiralty is however cleared up.

The questions are (1) When is the money to come from (e.g. £10,000 again) to come from without creating conflicting authorities.

(2) How to enable the Govt to do his best to put down piracy, with matching contribution to previous corresponding jurisdiction & making war on & stating that the HK.
