Other Documents of far less moment were transmitted to the Gentlemen, who compose the Commission of Enquiry to assist them in their investigation of the matters subjected to their inquiries.

I regret also that I should not notice your letter No. 736 of the 13th instant, October 30th, my suggestion of the instant, that any letter No. 53 reporting the increase of Defaulters upon the third Quarter of the present year, should be placed before the Commission with a view, if possible, to ascertain the causes of so unsatisfactory a result upon the quarter indicated.

In closing this letter let me assure you that it is a subject of painful concern to me (after having had recently and repeatedly to attend to the restoration of the letters of the Brigades Ball and Whyle to that correspondence before the Commission from which they had been omitted) that I should find myself called upon to address you and His Excellency the Acting Governor, as I am necessitated to do in this instance, because nearly and more years' experience of Official Colonial life had failed to bring to my knowledge any case approaching in oversight of what is just the treatment I experience at this moment, and complain of in this letter. I refer to your refusal to transmit, or your withdrawal of official written evidence essential to elucidate matters under investigation from the category of the general correspondence accompanying the instructions addressed to Messrs. Panicefate, Mitchell, and Barrith on the 27th of July last in your unnumbered letter of that date No. 579.
