With reference to terminating the correspondence on the subject, I proposed to the Major General Commanding that this Colony should receive $8,000 for the 4000 feet of land attached to the property, and which had been reclaimed at the expense of the Colony.
The probable value would be 3 dollars per foot, but under the circumstances I thought myself justified in offering to take $8,000 on behalf of the Colony.

I enclose the Major General's reply through the Military Secretary, from which you will perceive that he is recommending acceptance of my proposal provided the price realized by sale of the whole property reaches $90,000. I have agreed to this, and hope the arrangement may have your sanction.
