As Mr Huffum states, the work appears "very light", but it is of a highly responsible nature and the Office ought to be filled by an officer in whom the Government has confidence. Haitherts the Fees collected have been $1,525 against $900 expended in Salary, but I do not expect such great receipts in future year.
The Salary is merely a provisional and temporary one, and I intend informing Mr. Huffum that if the Fees are found to amount to less than $720 per annum, he will have to content himself with a less remuneration.
