acknowledging receipt of your letter of the 23rd instant, I have much pleasure in informing you that he has been appointing you as the Chief Justice in the Colony of Hongkong.
This is conferring an important appointment. I should be glad to enquire in the Division Staff in hand first business, I know he is liked as a good officer and always ready when called upon to render assistance to the Govt. when willing and not connected with his proper duties.
He is however somewhat dilatory in the execution of the legal business. What will be the practice in this case not with his appointment?
5 Denby the effect of Attorney finding fault with him.
The testimonials are reported on by MR. W. Sorate to be appointed Chief Justice of Hong Kong.
