The books in question are required for the interior working of the Mint; and being of a special & complicated character, it is considered desirable to have their manufacture in this country. Messrs Allau & Co have given an approximate estimate, ranging from £245.12.9 to £290.12.3, but in these amounts I find certain requirements are omitted. I would therefore ask permission to have the matter left to my discretion, limiting the total outlay under this head to £300.0.0.

Enclosed you will find Mr Graham's approval of the foregoing.

With reference to the Approximate Estimate of the 8th January 1864, amounting to £28,621.4.9, the sum already authorised, and including the present requisition, will amount to £21,347.15.4; leaving an unappropriated balance to this date of £7,273.9.5.
