In June 1862 Brigadin Staveley stated

& Gt Mr Minister at Peking that Europeans

were

in arms and

doing a large trade Ammunition with the Rebels in China,

weren

& that 10ft cent of the insurgents

with Muskets & Rifle supplied

Armed

from that source.

This was

reported to the Tonign p

on the 14 July 62, & Bring" Staveley assertion was borne out by The Capture at ringpo of an English Vessel with a full cargo of warlike stores, and also of a Lorcha with Englishmen onbound who were taken in the act
