April 25th To Attending I'laintiff's Attorney when he in- formed me he was then taking the ne- cessary steps to have the Defendant arrested on a ca, ed. re. as he had heard he was about to leave the Colony and proceed to Europe which I denied stat- ing that the Defendant had some short time before intended to go to one of the ports in the North of China but he had given up that intention and I believed he had no present intention of leaving Hongkong,.

Attending Plaintiff's Attorney again when he wrote to me stating that he had re- lied on what I had stated and had sus- pended the steps as to arrest at 4°. 15,

Attending the Defendant therewith at 4.30 P.M. asking how it came that this ru- mour had got abroad that he was about to leave and go by the French Mail Str. at noon next day and whether it was really the fact as he had never given me the slightest hint thereof when, he told me it was his intention as he was then packing up,..........
