in the event of your services being dispensed with (excepting from misconduct) within ... years from the date of your employment in this country, with full salary to the date of landing in Great Britain.
In the event of your relinquishing the appointment within three years from date of your arrival in Hong Kong, you will be required to repay Brown Agents the cost of your passage to that Colony.
Your duties will be as follows, viz.: to proceed to Hong Kong with the first shipment of materials to be sent from this country, first making yourself thoroughly acquainted with all the details of the Buildings about to be erected, to assist at, and direct the erection of the ironwork of the Buildings, superintend the erection of the Engines, Boilers, Furnaces &c. and all other ironwork & machinery to be sent from England.
On completion of the works, you will be required to assist in superintending and keeping in repair the whole of the Machinery and to perform such other duties as may be required by the Master of the Mint or his representative from time to time.
As it is desirable that you should become thoroughly conversant with all the details of the Buildings & Machinery about to be erected, I have to request your regular attendance at the Royal Mint.
