I beg to acknowledge your letter of the 10th instant authorising the Receivers of the Mint to accept tenders from Messrs. De Bupière & Messrs Whitworth,
I have also to acknowledge your letter of the 14th instant instructing me to appoint Mr. John English as "Engineer in the Royal Mint at Hong Kong" at a salary of £450 per annum.
I will carefully carry out the terms & conditions laid down in this case. Permit me to thank you for correcting the sentence in which the word "not" had been inadvertently written, the arrangement is quite satisfactory, and I will inform you when Mr. English arrives, as you suggest.
I can only account for the word having been written by a clerical error.
