Satisfactory
I consider the result highly favorable as I tendered for a Tank of similar capacity by weight, required for the Royal Mint the lowest offer was more than £100, above the tender of Messrs Balfour.
I also submit for the approval of His Grace the Duke of Newcastle the offer of Messrs Magniac of Pimlico for the supply of State Mantel pieces, for the offices & house, also the whole of the Grates and the slate floor for Assay room, state cisterns amounting to £341.4.6.
These mantel pieces £371.4.0 are adopted as far less costly than other description and less likely to be injured in transit. I have selected plain patterns and thereby made a considerable reduction in the estimated cost.
I have arranged for every grate to have the mantel piece carefully fitted to it thus preventing alterations & complications on arrival in China.
Mr. Magniac's process being worked under a patent places these articles under considerable competition.
I enclose a table of reference to the approximate estimates, and documents dated 14th March containing the whole of the tenders recommended and approved signed by MM Graham. In these documents, I have attached an initial letter to each contract to facilitate future reference.
I have the honor to be
Your most obedient Servant
M. M.
Rs. I also enclose copies of Letters accepting the tender authorised by His Grace the Duke of Newcastle.
