The Minting of gold and silver involves an arrangement which the Birmingham Mint does not possess and would have difficulty in organizing, and it is stated that it would not be worth their while to alter their system for the occasional order for the China Dollar, which would have to be made in England as soon as Hong Kong is in action.
J. It will not therefore be possible to take any early action in the matter of proposed coinage. In the meantime a great change has taken place in the market for Mexican Dollars. Owing to the increased safety enjoyed by Mexico in moving specie, the removal of restriction, and dollars have lately been received in London to a large extent and the price has fallen.
