Surveyor General had stated it to be in contemplation to continue the Praya of the Colony Yard, in front of the naval Yard, and that on the desirableness of this measure having been pointed out to Sir James Hope, the Admiral replied that no serious objection could be raised to the proposition, as an entrance could be made from the new Praya to the Yard by gates fixed in the wall.

3. The disposition of land at Kowloon having been finally determined upon, I did not consider myself called upon to do more than express my regret that so inconvenient an arrangement as that of a public thoroughfare between the Naval Coal Stores and the sea should have been sanctioned; but with respect to the proposition to continue the Praya of Hong Kong in front of the Naval Yard, it appeared to me to be so unreasonable, and undesirable in every respect and calculated...
