I have the honor to request that in one of Her Majesty's Ships returning to England a passage may be given to a prisoner named James Whyte Thompson who in accordance with directions from the Secretary of State for the Colonies is to be sent home to undergo the remainder of his sentence.

Thompson was tried for attempting murder, & acquitted on the ground of insanity.

He is however perfectly harmless & it is supposed that his apparent aberration of mind was the result of intemperance.
