I may quote the testimony of General Jervois, Acting Governor, as given in his despatch N.25 of 23rd March 1854, and I beg reference to Lieutenant Governor Caine's Despatches N.2 of 15th April 1854, and N.88 of 29th May 1859.
I may point to Sir John Bowring's Despatch N.85 of 24th June 1856, and I may refer for general proof of my service and qualification to the Papers on Hongkong presented to Parliament in 1860 (pp.235, 38, 264, and 397).
But I would especially draw your attention to the despatches of Sir Hercules Robinson N.70 of 19th May 1880, N.15 of 30th January 1861, and another of 10th January 1862. All these are Official documents, and on record they bear testimony as such; entirely unsought by me; there may even be others unknown to me of a similar character.
The Colonial Office List will also show that on two different occasions I have conducted the Government of the Colony, and I should add that the whole period of my administration has extended over nearly two years.
