Mor Donaldson's present Salary
£2.00 a year. He has been upwards of three years in the service of this Colony, and has proved himself a useful and industrious public servant. He has nearly completed the Construction of the New Government Gardens and he was, I believe, given to understand by Dr Mueller of the Melbourne Botanical Gardens, who selected him for his present post, that, if he gave satisfaction here, he might look for improvement in his position after three years' Service.
Msr Donaldson has been informed that the additional Salary must not be drawn until your sanction to the Expenditure be received.
The appointment at present is certainly underpaid as compared with other appointments of Similar rank and importance in the Civil service of the Colony.
