to report for the information of His Excellency -

1. With reference to the removal of the 19th Regiment to Kowloon in consequence of the late disturbances,

the Major General Commanding the Troops at Hong Kong fully concurred in the necessity of the measure for the sake of good order, civil and Military, in Hong Kong.

His Excellency's suggestion was therefore carried out without delay, and the Regiment was removed to Kowloon in the evening (with the exception of a few men left in the Barracks for the protection of Mess and other property, and a few steady staff employed). This Guard was removed to Flagstaff House the following morning.

2. With reference to the cases of rioting referred to, I have ordered a Court of Enquiry to assemble at Wardley House to inquire
