In support of which opinion I can only refer to Captain Quin's accompanying report of Listant No 104 which shows (1) that on Wednesday night and Thursday forenoon, before the Regiment was moved, three police Constables were assaulted and driven off their beats by armed soldiers of the 99th Regiment on Sentinel duty - (2) that on Friday the 15th, the day after the Regiment was moved, the Constables in charge of the Gang of Chinese Convicts were assaulted in the rear of Murray Barracks by two men of the 99th who had been left behind in charge of military property - and (3) that on the same day the Indian Constables had to be withdrawn from Kowloon, in consequence of continued misconduct on the part of the men of the same Regiment.
