those terms with
by the
Peninsular and Oriental Steam
Navigation Company, Oriental Bank Corporation, and Messrs Dent & Co.:
I have also received a letter from Mr. Kinder in which he observes that he considers that
some modification is necessary in his
own case,
which he
contrasts unfavourably with
that
of
the
Manager of Oriental Bank in Hongkong.
In reply I beg to point out-
that the terms proposed for Master and the four chief Officers
of the Mint are better than those given
to the Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents of the Peninsular and Oriental Company shown by Mr. Kinder; and that the Salaries paid to the
Manager of
the Oriental Bank
here and to the Clerks of Messrs.
Dent & Co are quite exceptional
cases, being far above the
average
similar appointments in the great majority of other Mercantile and Banking Establishments in the Colony. Nevertheless, the difference between even there
