In obedience to the instructions further contained in that despatch I have called on the Captain Superintendent of Police to suggest a general rule by which such gratuities shall be awarded in future.
And I enclose copy of Officer's Report.
The Regulations recommended by Captain Quin are simple, and such as I think will meet the object your despatch has in view.
I therefore submit them for your approval and Confirmation.
It is impossible from the very nature of the service to fix the maximum amount of the Gratuities, but I assure You that each case shall be well considered by me before gratuity is sanctioned.
