Special protection of commerce, and
In connection with the Suppression of Piracy with the Colonial authorities.
The Admiral on the Station has been instructed to place under the Orders of the Senior Naval officer at Hong Kong whatever force is employed in this Service.
This force is to act on the information conveyed to the Senior Naval Officer by the Local authorities, and at the Imperial Cost.
The entire Control & direction of the operations will also rest with him.
We have not yet heard how this decision has been received in the Colony, but we can hardly expect that Sir IR will be satisfied with an arrangement which is likely to lead to Misunderstandings between the Local & Naval authorities & which certainly looks rather cumbersome.
There are no further proposals before the Admiralty.
