Deep Bay which is about 18 miles from Hongkong and close to Tyshan has for a long time been known to be inhabited by most daring pirates who waylay native trading boats sometimes as in this instance firing upon and capturing them at the harbour's mouth. Stanley on this island has also repeatedly suffered from them and the fishermen there are at times obliged to hire a well-manned and armed boat to protect them from their depredations. There is reason to believe that the pirates who some time ago attacked a passenger junk close to this lost, killing four of the passengers, belonged to the village of Tune Long and it
