Special report of Pinney
Ichun ah Cheong, Master of the Sun-hop-lee Fowman boat belonging to Macao, reports that on the 1st May when on his way from Macao to Hainam when near to the latter place he was attacked by two large pirate boats each containing about 50 men.
The pirates fired off 8 shots killing one of the crew who fell overboard. The pirates then closed threw pots, then boarded and stink pots, then boarded and seized all the crew (21 in number) under hatches the next day my crew was divided between the two pirate boats. Informant was sent on shore to bring water when he took the opportunity of escaping to Chan lan and arrived at Hongkong this morning. Cargo consisted of 40 balls Patna and 107 bags Malwa opium and Cash - 1,475,000
My vessel was armed with 8 Cannon - 12 Muskets and Swords and Spears; all value about $4000. Can identify both boats and more than ten of the pirates
