Special Report of Piracy
A Fow, no. m, Sum-ting-Yuen, Master of Ting-Yuen junk trading between Hongkong and Chu-kong, belonging to Chun Chew, reports that on the 29th of May, whilst sailing off Lantao, her junk in company with his brother's boat belonging to the same place, were attacked by five large pirate boats armed with cannon, who fired several shots (more than ten), then boarded, and took her off in the direction of Koolan, with all on board.
My brother's boat at the time had on board 1200 piculs of salt, 38 rolls of matting, 4 cannon, and sundry other articles; 22 men and 4 children. Informant arrived here yesterday. The boat was valued at $2000, and the cargo...
