records, conducted themselves uniformly well. They appear never to have been
furnished for any breach of discipline, and from their having
been allowed by successive Officers in Charge of the Jail certain
indulgences and
privileges
as you

severe strictures from the Inspector General
of Prisons,
and were disallowed under his
instructions, I gather that there

Prisoners have always behaved so as to merit the favour of the officers
in Charge of the Jail.
It was
by these three
men
and their fellow Chinese prisoners who were
discharged
on the
expiry
of
their sentences, that all the different
trades and manufactures
carried
on so successfully in the Jail Factory were introduced and taught to the Sindhee Prisoners. They are most laborious, painstaking
and generally good
workmen, and are
well-tempered and amenable to discipline. I am fully persuaded, from careful observation, that any natural depravity ever existed
