them, and I believe all small drains should have gratings to prevent stones larger than 4 in. passing into them, it is easier to clear the gratings time of flood than to clear out the drains when blocked up. Stench traps should be placed where any great nuisance is complained of from their absence. The best form can only be arrived at by giving two or three a trial; the only trap that will ever be found to be of any real use is some form of water trap.
The amount of damage done to private property is very large and will not, I apprehend, cost less to repair than that done to Government Works.
