I believe greater than has been

the Cession

of

the

Island.

The two chief

Sources

of

the mischief were in

one from the Culvert passing under that Road West of Inland Lot you becoming blocked up, the other from the mouth of

the drain on Inland Lot box being

blocked

up.

In the

former case the water rushed down Castle Road

flooding the small drain coming

from Lot 577

and

tearing up the

road, passing North of Inland Lot 576 it tore up several tons

of earth just below Mr Fiechers stables bringing the buildings down, and

the Bank

bursting

over

on

to the

Bonham Road tore up the ground

East of N.2 Reservoir. The retaining

wall at the East Reservoir

corner

was carried

away

and a

heavy body of water was

poured over the top

of

the Reservoir all the

afternoon of the 6th Instant. Had the rain continued much

longer

I believe the Reservoir would have

been in some

danger from the

rush of

water

scouring

out the

foundations at the North East corner

As a measure of precaution I let out all the water on the

morning
