Serjeant Albert as was his duty obeyed the order and satisfied himself by simply making a note of it in his pocket book.
I consider the Serjeant in charge responsible to me for the general efficiency of the force more especially the care of arms and ammunition- and Serjeant Albert exhibited a great want of proper judgement after obeying the directions of the Superintendent in not bringing this circumstance under my notice without delay- which would have been his proper course of duty.
On the morning of the escape the Serjeant's report shows "Present on duty 280 Rounds of Ammunition. this appears to embrace the Reserve Ammunition in charge of the Superintendent which appears to have been erroneously included in the Serjeant's report.
The amount of Reserve Ammunition supplied for the use of the Police force exclusive of 10 rounds for each man since the establishment of the Prison at
