the conduct of to obtain explanation the Police on the occasion that called for the Report, such conduct being impugned in several particulars by the Board of Inquiry.

His Excellency therefore desires to be specifically informed as to who is responsible for the neglect of the Departmental orders regarding the Sentry posted to communicate between the gang and the Convict Hulk.

Mr. Tomlin reports that this duty was the responsibility of the Serjeant. If so, was the Serjeant called upon for explanation? Has he been called upon for explanation?

Again, the Board reports that the fire-arms of the Police Department were far from being in perfect order, and that only five rounds of ammunition had been supplied to each man instead of ten. Further, the Portuguese Constable on duty had no fire-arms.

You are requested to state the condition of the fire-arms at the Station, for which the Serjeant in charge is responsible; whether the Serjeant was responsible for the issue of the proper quantity of ammunition, and for seeing that the Constables on duty were properly armed.
