Instant, and has produced certificate from the Crown Agents showing that he received half Salary in England from 1st August to 31st October, 1863, and to no later period.

2. Mr. Thornton's agent received his half Salary here to 31st October 1863 and to no later date; that his double pay was received for the preceding quarter; and as no Salary was paid either here or in London for the final quarter of Thornton's leave, viz. from 3/4 October 1863 to 31st January 1864, it follows that on this last date Mr Thornton had received the precise sum to which he was entitled.

3. After 31 January last M. Thornton, under your Grace's instructions, ceased to be entitled to any Salary.

4. There is therefore no claim either from or to Mr Thornton, who will draw his full Salary from the 9th Instant, the date of his resumption of his duties.
